Northstate Cat Coalition (NCC) was formed by longtime rescuers Sarah Barics-Steiner and Laurie O'Connell in the Fall of 2021, when they happened upon a 186-cat colony in the northern Shasta County wilderness. Over the course of a year, with support from FieldHaven Feline Center and the local community, they trapped, spay/neutered, vaccinated, funded essential medical care, and rehomed the entire colony.

Since then, we've monitored that wilderness colony with game-cams and provided ongoing TNR (trap-neuter-return/rehome) and vaccinations for newly abandoned cats and kittens onsite (several per month, mainly friendly cats).

NCC is now a 501(c)(3) with a team of dedicated members who TNR, foster, provide colony management, and share essential information with the public. In neighborhoods and rural areas throughout three counties, we've conducted dozens of comprehensive missions focusing on feral and mixed colonies as well as individual community cats, including reuniting lost pets with their people. We also rescue and provide emergency and ongoing medical / in-home care for far NorCal's sick and injured cats, neonatal kittens and their mamas, and elder/hospice cats.

Per our motto, For the cats ... for the community, NCC also offers advice and education on the crucial importance of spay/neuter, and guidance in DIY rescue.

In this challenged community with few resources for cats, we live rescue 24/7; going above and beyond for far NorCal's neediest felines.
