Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle

Our mission at Redding Refugee Sponsor Circle is to provide a warm welcome to a safe and fulfilling new life for individuals and families fleeing violence and war in Ukraine, Afghanistan, and other places of danger by offering comprehensive and sustainable resettlement assistance. The range of services we provide include housing, documentation, translation, employment, education and transportation. We also offer referrals to legal aid, as the pathway to permanent residence is complicated and fraught with backlogs and shifting regulations. Since our first meeting on February 14, 2022, what began as a group of eight people has grown to a group of around 50 community members from diverse backgrounds who are united by a commitment to the long-term goal of refugee resettlement in Redding. Members of our group have not only become advocates for local resettlement, but for national resettlement, as well, signing and distributing petitions for the passage of the Afghan Adjustment Act and the Ukrainian Adjustment Act, writing letters to Congress, and even volunteering to personally advocate for the sponsorship of pro-resettlement bills with Congress. Our goal is to increase national and local awareness of the plight of refugees and give community members hope and optimism about the capacity of communities like ours to do something about global crises.
