Your generous donation this Giving Tuesday will support our no-kill mission to rescue and care for homeless dogs of all ages and breeds.
With nearly 250 dogs in our care--and more arriving every day--the demand has never been greater.
With your support, we will continue to save precious lives, find loving homes, provide medical treatment, make a difference for pet owners in our community, and promote responsible dog ownership.
* Early giving starts Nov. 19th *
Rescue Ranch is a grassroots, no-kill dog rescue that has been saving lives for over 20 years! We were established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2000. We rely on donations from the local community, grants from foundations and organizations, and proceeds from the Rescue Ranch Thrift Store. We do not receive funding from any State, County or City agencies.
Our mission is to rescue and care for homeless dogs. Our goal is for no pet to be killed due to lack of shelter space. We believe the entire community benefits when we protect those who have no voice.
2024 has been a year filled with life-saving projects, adventures, emergencies, and day-to-day care. Despite many challenges, Rescue Ranch continues to grow and make a difference in our community. One thing's for sure: we couldn't continue to do what we do without your support!
Rescue Ranch is currently caring for 244 dogs. So far this year we've welcomed 517 new dogs, meaning we'll match or possibly exceed the number of dogs rescued in 2023. At the same time, adoptions have been declining. In 2023 we found permanent homes for 443 dogs and puppies, whereas so far this year we've adopted out 332.
This year, it's been necessary to grow our base in order to keep up with the demands. The Rescue Ranch team now includes 11 staff members at the Adoption Center, 7 caretakers at our Sanctuary property, and 5 additional personnel in other roles. And that's not counting our pool of amazing volunteers, who walk dogs, drive transports, staff adoption events, fold laundry, scoop yards, socialize puppies, enter data, and so much more.
The development of the Rescue Ranch Sanctuary has been central to our expansion as a dog rescue. At present the Sanctuary is sheltering 108 dogs and puppies. The Sanctuary space gives us creative options not possible in the more confined setup of the Adoption Center. One of our newest developments is a village of "Keepers Condos": cozy doggy duplexes that will house six "keepers" or longterm Ranch residents in need of more permanent housing.
Another area of growth is our foster program. 61 Rescue Ranch dogs and puppies are learning valuable lessons and enjoying a respite in happy foster homes. Our long-range adoption events and expanding rescue network has helped us find fosters and adopters farther afield.
Our biggest challenge this year has been the number of medical emergencies requiring the support of Kitu's Fund. Kitu's Fund is a high-cost and emergency medical fund named for a young husky found injured by the side of a road in 2015. Our Kitu's Fund outlay so far this year exceeds $53,000, and has provided life-saving emergency care for more than 60 dogs.
This outlay is in addition to our regular vetting expenses, including spay/neuter surgeries, wellness exams, medications, and vaccines for healthy dogs. Our regular veterinary expenses this year so far total over $77,000!
Our hearts are full of gratitude for all our supporters, monthly sustainers, fosters, adopters, and rescue advocates. YOU are the reason we can "Do it for the dogs"--one day at a time.
