The Shasta Y is more than just a gym. It is a safe place for all members of the community, starting in childhood and extending all the way into retirement. The Shasta Y provides opportunities for healthy living for all ages, youth development and social responsibility through its facilities, programs and community partnerships. Unique compared to other health facilities in Redding, the Shasta Y offers Financial Assistance between 10% and 100% to our members, based on a sliding scale determined by income and need. Financial aid effectively levels the playing field, allowing for EVERYONE to have a place.
Responding to the community’s much needed childcare services, our Child Watch provides an in-house, drop-in care center so that members have a safe space for their young children while they use our facility. Also on site is Y Club, our teen after school program, with healthy after school light meals, games, and staff available for homework help and mentorship. This provides teens a safe harbor after school, a healthy alternative environment that helps to reduce risky and delinquent behaviors and enables them to make and maintain safe social connections. We also run two elementary and middle school programs off site at Boulder Creek Elementary and Redding School of the Arts.
Healthy Living: Inside our doors, we serve over 9000 members. We offer over 110 clauses per week, personal training, 3 pools for open swim and lap swim, stress and trauma support programs, and Shasta Y Sharks competitive swim team. Our aging community can take advantage of 30 Aqua Aerobics classes, and 20 land-based classes on a weekly basis that are appropriate for where they are in life, with several specifically focused on safe strength building and mobility. Many of our aging members have built community here so critical to their overall well-being and are often seen chatting in our café area throughout the day. The community that aging individuals create at the Shasta Y helps to mitigate the loneliness that can often be felt in the latter stages of life.
Social Responsibility. We offer financial assistance & low-fee programs to serve those most in need, job training programs, teen & senior nutrition, development services partner, disaster preparedness State partner (listos), volunteer program.
The Y Provides a supportive environment for families of all backgrounds, ages, and disabilities where people can meet their health and wellbeing goals through exercise, nutrition, and healthy living programs. At the SF YMCA: we are a community of connection, where "everybody knows your name'"
