The Siskiyou Economic Development Council (SEDC) has led a multi-year, community-supported process to create an adaptive reuse and placemaking strategy for Yreka’s historic Carnegie Library. This comprehensive plan includes community visioning, site acquisition, development planning, architectural and historical assessments, environmental remediation, permitting, and construction. Although $5 million in state, federal, foundation, and local funding has been secured, additional funding is crucial to fully realize this transformative project.
Donations will have a direct impact on ensuring this once-shuttered landmark becomes an inspirational community asset and a key fixture of Miner Street. The renovated building will feature ADA accessibility, multi-purpose spaces, and programming designed to attract pedestrians and serve Siskiyou County’s diverse business and community needs. It will embody best practices in local economic development and public-private partnerships, showcasing rural innovation and resilience.
